Are Flat Earthers Committing the Unpardonable Sin?
Why on the Flat Earth the Doctrine of the Holy Spirit Matters!
There are a growing number of Flat Earth believers who are denying the doctrine of the Trinity. That’s why I dove into the topic in 2023:
However, since writing that article, I’ve wanted to follow up with a post narrowing in on the Biblical Doctrine of the Holy Spirit.
What’s So Important about the Holy Spirit?
Here are three main reasons the nature of the Holy Spirit is so critical, especially in the Flat Earth movement.
Eternal Life Is Tied to Knowing the One True God. Jesus testified, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3). This means we must know how God has revealed Himself in the Bible if we want eternal life. Does this sound harsh to you? Remember, the same God whom you trust about the nature of the cosmos, is the same God who said that eternal life is tied up in the true nature of God. But wait, you say, “See the passage only speaks of God and Jesus, not the Holy Spirit.” Consider that it is the Spirit who gives life. “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Roman 8:11). For a quick refresher on Bible’s teaching on the Trinity, I refer you to Flat Earth, the Trinity, and Ancient Mysteries. In a later installment, I will do a deep dive into the Nature of the Holy Spirit as revealed in Scripture.
Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit Is the Unpardonable Sin. Jesus and the Father so honor the Spirit, that they will tolerate blasphemy against themselves. However, if anyone blasphemes the Spirit, God will not forgive them, ever. I do not intend to dig into the nuances of the unpardonable sin in this series. My point in bringing this up is to show the reader WHY it is critical to understand the Nature of the Holy Spirit. Consider Jesus’ words, “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come” (Matthew 12:31-32). Notice, one doesn’t have to blasphemy the Holy Spirit to risk eternal damnation — merely speaking against Him puts you in danger of eternal damnation.
A Flat Earth Group Is Creating Excellent Material on Biblical Cosmology while Denying the Third Person of the Trinity. To explain this third bullet point, I plan to dive into the history of a movement that began by a false teacher who predicted Christ would return in 1843-1844. His failed prediction led to the “Great Disappointment” and the advent of Adventism, which we will discuss in the next installment. Before we go there, I would like to remind Flat Out Hope readers that Satan Doesn’t Care if You Believe the Earth is Flat or A Sphere. All he cares about is either dragging you to Hell or getting you to break God’s Law. As Christians, we must be vigilant to know the Word of God inside and out and not trust every wind of doctrine. If you’ve never studied the doctrine of the Trinity yourself from the Bible — I highly recommend that you do. It is a historic Christian doctrine for a reason. You should KNOW why it is considered the backbone of true Christianity and why the doctrine is attacked by every cult known to man. We each will give an account to God for how we handle the Word of Truth.
Digging into this topic has greatly expanded my understanding of the depths of sin and the deceptiveness of false prophets. My studies have revealed that I have been too soft and accepting of a movement that I thought might be teaching Christian doctrine when they are not.
It turns out, that this movement, when following the doctrines of its founders — is a full-blown cult. I will set out to prove this to the reader in a future post.
I will present this information in several installments to make it easy to digest while addressing the topic thoroughly. Thankfully, those held under the sway of these false prophets may not have committed the unpardonable sin, but I’m pretty sure some of its founding members have. My goal in this series is to warn readers of this doctrine of demons so they will not fall under the sway of the evil one.
If you are wrapped up in the false teachings I’m about to expose, I hope that you will investigate everything that I share here. Just as you had to research to discover the earth was flat, you will also have to research this topic to see if what I am saying is true. There are liars and deceivers out there who are trying to drag you to Hell.1
In the next installment, we will dig into the details of The Great Disappointment.
Yes. Hell is real. There is a reason most cults like to pretend that the Bible doesn’t teach everlasting punishment. The false teaching appeals to the flesh and is one of Satan’s most powerful tools to deceive people. Don’t use the same techniques to dismiss the doctrine of Hell as Christians use to “prove” we live on a globe. We must not come to the Bible with what we WANT it to say. We must find the truth of God’s Word by studying what He says, not what we want to believe. God is not a liar and He will not be mocked.
